Social Protection Digitalization Pilot: Simpler Data Collection, More Accurate Data
August 15, 2026 | Other Activities
Semarang, jateng.bps.go.id — The National Economic Council (DEN), together with BPS and relevant stakeholders, conducted a pilot test of social protection digitalization by visiting residents’ homes directly in Gajahmungkur District, Semarang Municipality.
The pilot is part of an effort to identify simpler and more effective approaches to updating the socio-economic data of the population. The digital approach is expected to reduce the burden of data collection, accelerate data updates, and improve the accuracy of the data used as a foundation for various social protection programs.
Previously, during a discussion at BPS of Jawa Tengah Province, it was highlighted that a pilot test to simplify socio-economic data variables was being conducted in Semarang. If the results prove successful, the model will be further assessed for broader implementation.
Digitalization also enables communities to update their own data using simpler variables, potentially reducing the need for frequent large-scale censuses. With data that can be updated more easily and maintained more accurately, social protection policies are expected to become increasingly effective.
This initiative represents part of the broader transformation toward a simpler, more adaptive, integrated, and high-quality data-driven social protection ecosystem.
