Quality Data, Better Policies: ELITA 7 Highlights the Role of Statistics in Public Decision-Making

Semarang, jateng.bps.go.id — As part of its commitment to strengthening statistical literacy, the Statistics Corner of Diponegoro University, in collaboration with BPS of Jawa Tengah Province, organized ELITA 7 (Education and Statistical Literacy) on Friday, July 31, 2026. Carrying the theme “Statistical Data for Public Decision-Making,” the event provided a platform for students, academics, and the general public to better understand the importance of utilizing official statistics to support evidence-based public policies.

The event was officially opened by Prof. Tarno, Head of the Department of Statistics at Diponegoro University, who emphasized the importance of enhancing statistical literacy as a foundation for fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making.

Serving as the keynote speaker, the Head of BPS of Jawa Tengah Province, Dr. Ali Said, M.A., highlighted the strategic role of official statistics in supporting the formulation of accountable, targeted, and people-centered public policies.

The main presentation was delivered by Didik Nursetyohadi, Senior Statistician and Head of the Regional Accounts and Statistical Analysis Team of BPS of Jawa Tengah Province. He explained how statistical data can be effectively utilized throughout the policy cycle—from planning and evaluation to decision-making across various development sectors.

The event was hosted by Sandi Surya Atmaja, Statistics Ambassador of Diponegoro University, who served as both master of ceremonies and moderator, facilitating an interactive discussion and providing participants with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers.

Through ELITA 7, BPS of Jawa Tengah Province and its partners hope to enhance public understanding, particularly among university students, of the importance of official statistics as a foundation for producing high-quality, objective, and impactful public policies and decisions that contribute to sustainable development.
