SEMARANG, jateng.bps.go.id - Member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI), Dr. Abdul Kholiq, paid a working visit to the Jawa Tengah Statistics Agency (BPS) on July 26, 2025, to discuss strategies for accelerating regional development through an economic zoning approach. During the discussion, Dr. Kholiq proposed simplifying the development scheme from eight zones to four agglomeration-based economic zones. This measure is considered more effective in addressing regional disparities, particularly in the southern region of Jawa Tengah, which still faces high poverty rates and stagnant economic growth.

The Acting Head of the Jawa Tengah BPS, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, presented strategic data related to economic growth, the contribution of the industrial sector, the distribution of commodities contributing to inflation, and development disparities between regions. Endang emphasized the importance of utilizing statistical data in designing more targeted policies, particularly in supporting regions with agricultural and fisheries potential that have not received optimal incentives and attention from the central government.

The results of this visit underscored the importance of collaboration between the DPD RI and BPS as a basis for inclusive and sustainable development policymaking. With a new data-driven approach and economic zoning, Jawa Tengah is expected to be able to create fairer, more equitable growth and strengthen inter-regional competitiveness.
