At the end of 2020, Jawa Tengah has experienced inflation of 0.46%.
January 2021, BPS Provinsi Jawa Tengah released the December 2020 inflation rate of 0.46 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 105.51. The year-on-year inflation rate or December 2020 calendar year inflation is 1.56 percent. This calendar year inflation is much lower than the calendar year inflation for December 2018 and December 2019, which were 2.82 percent and 2.81 percent, respectively. The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic calendar year inflation was below the initial target of Bank Indonesia, namely 3 plus minus 1%. Although, the purchasing power of the people of Jawa Tengah has begun to improve entering the fourth quarter of 2020.
Of the six CPI cities in Central Java, all cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Kota Tegal at 0.56 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Surakarta at 0.32 percent. The highest calendar year inflation occurred in Kota Tegal, reaching 2.36%, while the lowest was Kudus, namely 1.24%.
The main commodity contributing to Jawa Tengah's inflation is red chilies. In addition, inflation was also caused by rising prices for eggs, cayenne peppers, chicken meat and house contracts. Meanwhile, as a barrier to inflation in December 2020, the price of rice, oranges, salak, gold jewelry, and shallots fell.
