Abstract

Migration or permanent displacement is a component of population growth besides fertility and mortality. However, compared to fertility and mortality data, migration data is still very scarce. This is due to the absence of a separate survey for migration. Migration questions are asked in population censuses, intercensal population surveys, and in recent years have been included in national socioeconomic surveys. Migration events are very rare demographic events, not everyone experiences them, so migration data from surveys is generally not good due to the small number of samples. Meanwhile, migration data sourced from administrative records is still far from perfect.
