Borobudur Becomes a Super Priority Tourism Destination

MAGELANG, jateng.bps.go.id - Indonesia's tourism performance in 2024 shows a higher achievement improvement compared to 2023. The number of foreign tourist trips (wisman) from January to May 2024 reached 5.24 million visits, higher than the same period in 2023, and is approaching the 2019 level. Meanwhile, domestic tourist trips (wisnus) in 2023 reached 825 million. In 2024, it is hoped that the achievements of foreign and domestic tourists will be better. In supporting quality tourism, there needs to be destination diversification, namely the development of destination interconnectivity from existing destinations to potential destinations. Therefore, the acceleration of the development of five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP) was prepared.

Deputy for Distribution and Service Statistics of BPS, Puji Ismartini was present in person at the National Coordination Meeting (Rakornas) for the Acceleration of the Development of Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP) in 2024 held at the Plataran Borobudur Hotel on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Accompanied by the Head of BPS of Jawa Tengah Province, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, Puji said that Borobudur Temple located in Magelang, Jawa Tengah is one of the DPSPs that should be developed. Where Jawa Tengah is ranked third for domestic tourists in Indonesia. Led by Odo R.M Manuhutu, Deputy for Tourism and Creative Economy Coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia, the activity continued by touring the Borobudur Temple Area to see firsthand the tourism potential in the surrounding area.

Before attending the Rakornas, Puji and her entourage stopped by and greeted employees at BPS Magelang City and BPS Magelang Regency. In his direction, Puji said that Jawa Tengah has high tourism development potential so that data that supports tourism needs to be monitored for quality and advised to start disseminating data produced by BPS so that it can be understood by the public and start socializing the 2026 Economic Census.
